For once the Red Sox are making more noise than the Yankees this offseason. The deal to bring Adrian Gonzalez to The Boston Red Sox has until 2pm today to get done, and if it does, will be the blockbuster thus far in MLB Hot Stove action. A Gonz to Boston will definitely put that monster bat we once had with #24 back in the order.
Gonzalez was the Padres’ best offensive weapon – and often their only one. With 31 home runs and 101 RBI’s, he helped San Diego get to the brink of a playoff berth. He recently finished fourth in the NL MVP balloting, but a move to Boston will dramatically increase his profile.
Perhaps the Adrian Gonzalez Red Sox trade was made with an eye on the Yankees, as most every move Boston makes is. The Yankees are still favored to obtain Cliff Lee’s services, and having Gonzalez would help Boston out in showdowns against him.
